In progress: Check from shore to see if the hull is protected and if the MGPS is working.
Today, on most vessels, the status of the ICCP and MGPS is only known when someone checks the dashboard, or when the annual inspection uncovers a problem that has been present for months. MCP Pulse is the remote monitoring solution that MCP Marine is developing to change this: system readings are continuously transmitted to the technical team and the shipowner, and any deviation triggers an alert.
Current status: MCP Pulse is currently under internal development and is being used by the MCP Marine team itself. We are selecting shipowners to participate in the first installations. I want to participate
What MCP Pulse Will Monitor
ICCP
– Output current and voltage for each anode
– Hull potential at each reference electrode (DNV-RP-B401 criterion)
– Rectifier and control panel alarms
– History data for trend analysis
MGPS/ICAF
– Current applied to each copper and aluminum/iron anode
– Control unit alarms
– Estimated consumption and service life of the anodes
How It Will Work
- Onboard data collection: A module connected to the ICCP panel and the MGPS unit records the readings
- Transmission: Data is sent to the cloud via the connectivity available on board or at the port
- Analysis: MCP Marine’s technical team monitors data and trends
- Web dashboard and alerts: Shipowners monitor their fleet online, and any deviations trigger an immediate alert
Expected benefits
- Flaws detected on the very day they occur, not months later
- Fewer on-site visits: mobilization only when necessary, with the diagnosis already in hand
- Docking Planning Using Actual Anode Consumption Data
- Ongoing verification of operational status for operators and for class surveys
Who is it for?
- Shipowners with fleets of offshore support vessels, coastal vessels, or tugboats
- FPSOs and platforms equipped with ICCP and large-scale MGPS systems
- Operations in which unplanned downtime is costly
Frequently Asked Questions
Is MCP Pulse available yet?
It is not yet commercially available. It is currently under development and in internal use. Interested shipowners can sign up for the first installations.
Will it work with my current system?
The goal is to integrate with ICCP and MGPS units from different manufacturers, using the outputs available on the panels. We evaluate each case individually.
Does this replace the annual review?
No. It complements it. Monitoring tracks the system’s performance on a daily basis; the annual review includes a physical inspection, calibration, and tests that require the technician’s presence.
